Yards of yummy
More than 7000 orchardists' families care for South Tyrolean apples on an area of ca. 18,400 hectares. That relates to ca. 2.5% of South Tyrol’s total area and more area than 25,000 soccer fields. Every second apple harvested in Italy comes from South Tyrol – ca. 950,000 tons of apples are picked here every year. That corresponds to 50% of the Italian and 10% of the European apple yield. Half of the South Tyrolean apple harvest is exported to Europe and the Arabian countries. Germany has the biggest appetite for South Tyrolean apples with 30% of the total exports.

Organic? Of course!
Also organic apples have a long tradition in South Tyrol: they’ve been cultivated here since the 1980s. Our nearly 40% share of the market makes South Tyrol the largest supplier of organic apples in Europe.

The climate is right
On more than 300 days a year, the sun shines here, or more than 2000 hours. The interplay of warm days and cool nights in the fall gives the fruit its delicious sweetness, its special aroma and its unique color. An average of 800 mm of annual precipitation and porous, airy soil make for perfect growing conditions.

300 sunny days, fertile soils and heights of 200 to 1,000 meters above sea level create ideal cultivation conditions for the South Tyrolean apple.
