Konrad Delazer from Rasa/Raas in the Isarco/Eisack valley has been working his farm, Häuslerhof, in the middle of the village, for nearly 25 years. His love of bikes has led him to become the first “Bike Farm” in South Tyrol/Südtirol.
Only a few steps from the center of the village, Häuslerhof farm has been in the Delazer family for several generations. Together with his wife, Karin, and his children, Sabrina und Philipp, Konrad Delazer grows apples and wine grapes on about 2½ hectares. “The farm is small,” admits the trained cook humbly, “but we can live very well from it.”
In the farm shop, the family sells, along with jams and wines, fruit and other homemade goods, also apple juice. That this juice is a favorite among their guests is no wonder: Delazer’s target group travels on two wheels.
The holiday apartments are under brisk demand among mountain bikers. Häuslerhof is the only officially recognized “Bike Farm” in all of South Tyrol/Südtirol, a distinction the host carries with pride. Since the completion of his training as a mountain bike guide six years ago, he has offered weekly guided tours, complete with a hearty breakfast.
Up to now, Delazer has led his tours alone, but there is no fear for the future for Häuslerhof farm: son Philipp is attending the Laimburg Technical School for Fruit, Wine and Gardening. For the time being, the line of succession is assured.
