Rubens®
Rubens® is a hybrid of the flavourful Gala and Elstar varieties. It owes its crunchy texture and fresh aroma to the Elstar and its pleasantly sweet taste to the Gala. Rubens® has an aroma of pear and banana, with little acidity and slight astringency.
Andreas Gschleier, apple grower from Auer/Ora, about the Rubens
The Rubens® club apple has a similar market profile to the Elstar variety and is often regarded as a substitute. Rubens® is another early ripening apple alongside the Gala and Elstar and is harvested in South Tyrol at the end of August.
