Granny Smith

The Granny Smith belongs to the more sour apples, containing a high amount of fruit acids. Typical for the Granny: It is juicy to very juicy, with strong astringency, surrounded by a crisp peel. The aroma reminds one slightly of red berries and brings to mind citrus fruits as well as a slight note of marzipan or almond. The peel, with time, reminds one of green bell pepper.

Evi Florian abaout the Granny Smith

With its green color and the slightly sour taste, the Granny Smith variety is one of a kind in the world of apples and the complete opposite of Golden Delicious. To reach full ripeness, this apple needs a very warm climate which can be found in the low-lying areas of the Etsch Valley. However, Granny Smith doesn’t like direct sunlight very much.
