Evi Florian, apple farmer from Kaltern/Caldaro, about the Granny Smith
The Granny Smith apple variety is unique in the apple world with its green colour and very sour taste, making it the exact counterpart to the Golden Delicious. To mature completely, this variety needs a very warm climate, which it finds in South Tyrol and especially in the Etschtal valley. Interestingly, however, this apple is actually very sun-shy.
